Deciphering the wisdom of the antelopes

with Asaf Rolef Ben-Shahar
A herd of antelope graze on the open savannah. The wind is blowing away from them, toward the bush, where the lurking cheetah awaits a chance to attack. One antelope senses danger and instantly the whole herd is alive as a wave of fear passes through them all, seemingly in the same second. The antelope and the other animals present are now hyper vigilant; ready to run the moment the cheetah makes a move.

Antelope depend on their capacity to receive and transmit somatic, unconscious messages that inform other members of the herd of their emotional and physical state. Their continued existence as individuals, as a herd and ultimately a species depends on their capacity to resonate. As human animals, we also possess a natural ability to resonate. We unconsciously respond to bodily signals, thoughts and feelings from others.

To enhance our natural ways of resonating with others we can learn new skills and develop a greater awareness of this inner ability to communicate somatically. As we learn to pay attention we become more accurate at interpreting these signals. These abilities carry far more information than external observations since they take place in our own bodies, and depending on our own level of body awareness, can be far more subtle and complex and thus more astute.

Much of the work of Milton Erickson, Stephen Gilligan and other world renowned psychotherapists and healers, particularly their intuitive understanding of their clients, was based on resonance.

In the therapeutic world, resonance is often labelled as transference and counter-transference. Other contexts may call it intuition, empathy, tuning-in or even mind reading. Yet resonance is more than a technique, it is a skill that requires a sincere and genuine readiness to feel; to be honest with ourselves and to allow others to "touch" us. To resonate well, we are required to be present with all of our thoughts, sensations and feelings – and also to extend this to those aspects of our clients. It is from within this connection that our shared humanity emerges and blossoms, resulting in a magic moment, a moment with the potential for change like no other.

Hypnosis, NLP, Body-therapies, meditation and psycho-analysis all make use (with varied degrees of consciousness) of our capacity to resonate.

If you are interested in discovering your inner antelope and developing your natural ability to resonate, in exploring skills for recognising and fine-tuning resonance while communicating; and particularly while working 1:1 or with small groups, this workshop is for you.

To assist you in exploring this profound and fascinating skill the two-day workshop is limited to 16 people and will incorporate experiential, theoretical and clinical aspects of resonance, including a demonstration.
