Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.30 pm

The Job
We require a Database Administrator to deliver and support, a large scale, highly available database system which drives the company’s internet based insurance websites.

The Company
This vacancy will provide the opportunity to join eDevelopment, a young, fast-growing, forward thinking, organisation who specialise in the design and build of insurance websites. eDevelopment work primarily with their business partner Brightside Group plc. Brightside, an international organisation provide a diverse range of insurance and financial services either direct or via the internet and include the locally based companies eGroup and
Commercial Vehicle Direct.

The Location
We are based in Aust, a picturesque rural location overlooking the Severn Bridge, 5 minutes drive from Aztec West, 10 minutes from Thornbury and 15 minutes drive from Central Bristol. Excellent motorway routes which avoid many of Bristol’s traffic black spots, with free on-site secure parking. Easy access from South Wales/Chepstow area.

The Department
Working within the Web Development section of our internet insurance division, providing an innovative solution to buying insurance and managing existing insurance policies online. Developers also assist other Group companies with software projects and problems. The Department is primarily made up of Web Developers, IT Technicians and Web Based Product Managers.

The Main Duties
Database Configuration including Backups, replication of MySQL DBs, DB optimisation and design. Database Operations includings Backups, Monitoring, Query Optimisation, Daily Health Checks, responsibility for compliance with Security Policy, Performance Testing and Archiving. You will also assist in control and execution of ad hoc developer queries and future database planning as well as providing support for application development.

The Person
You will have excellent knowledge of MySQL v4, v5 and replication. As well as experience working with:

 SQL query optimisation
 Use of SQL in application development
 Building and maintaining large scale, high availability databases
 Database design
 Operational DB management

 You will be flexible and also have the ability to work effectively within a team and individually whilst working to strict deadlines.
 Computer Science degree or equivalent desirable
