Music theory musicianship for band musicians

Date posted: Tuesday 15th July

Group lessons or one-to-one tuition for musicians that want to find out more about music theory and practical musicianship.

If you are a band musician and you're frustrated from not being able to 'keep up' or feel a bit unsure when things get a bit 'technical', these are lessons to increase your musical confidence, awareness, and abilities.

Topics include

Time signatures - what are they? why bother? what do they mean?
Counting and beat awareness
Reading and writing rhythms, staff notation, chords for songwriting
Scales and modes - what they are, what they do
Getting into improvisation
Harmony and chord progressions
Group playing and group practice methods
Solo practice methods that will benefit your group playing

The lessons have no necessary focus at all on specific styles, so you are free to use this knowledge however you see fit. This is not theory for learning rules, more for empowering yourself as a flexible and confident musician.

I play electric guitar and bass guitar, keyboard and drums, so whatever your instrument I will be able to adapt to your needs and explain in a simple way that suits your learning and playing style.

Please feel free to get in touch and we can discuss your situation and requirements. One off and irregular lessons are possible.
